In sixth grade religion, students are learning about the Story of Ruth.
As Boaz showed kindness and charity to Ruth, a foreigner in a foreign land, the 6th graders made a small book of uplifting messages and bible verses for Father Joseph to lift his spirits, knowing he has moments of missing his home country, his family, and church community.
Students learned and performed a song during Fr. Joseph's recent clergy visit to their religion class. It is a translation of the Book of Ruth chapter 1 verses 16 and 17, in the Ewe language from the Volta Region in Ghana.
Ms. Cyr lived and taught in Ghana at one time. She explained, "When I was living there, middle school students shared it with me, and I shared it with the 6th grade. We hope the song in a language from West Africa will bring a smile to Father Joseph."
16 Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried May the Lord's worst punshisment come upon me if I let anything but death separate me from you."
